| | Im glad nobody was interested in buying my macro lens lol.
After the diffuser experiment, i found my love again with all things small :)
This is btw at tanay rizal, just beside a basketball court lol :p |
| | I've been thinking of buying a ring flash (more like a diffuser really ) but after seeing plenty of DIY solutions. I decided to get the top of a ice cream box , bore a hole into and thats about it :p
works really well imo. bye bye to light problems when macro'ing :)
I even had a couple of shooters walk up to me and ask "wth is that", but after showing the results, they laughed and was amazed, same reaction as I had while making this lol.

I need to clean my sensor lol |
| | nice to finally get some light when shooting.
December 8, 2009 |
| | Instead of waiting for todays fight, i went out to do some hunting again.
|
| | I wanted to do some macro again in qc, but i figured I've had too much green backgrounds already, so i took my girls to a nice place along roxas blvd.

| | Today I was feeling a bit restless, so to get the blood flowing again I decided to get some exercise.
When your shooting insects, you get all lots of weird looks from other people, you get dirty, you sit - lie down in the grass - then after you get home you've also taken some critters with you.
Good way to start the day. |
| | Sorry i cant think of a better title but its been a long week for me, a mixture of work and fun at the same time, I've practically held my cam all week but ironically to get a bit of relaxation, I went out and got the cam and went to look for bugs, its was still raining and it took a while for me to get any decent subjects.
I wasn't satisfied with what I found so after that I went to the grocery store and bought myself a couple of flowers. |
| | Trisha was just playing inside our office when I asked her to sit down and pose for me.
Amazingly she gave me about 3mins of her time and I got the shot of the day.
w00t!!

| | This is the 2nd time I've taken fish pics , and really the key was the light coming from the top, I used a small soft box on top, added a black piece of cardboard on the right , then a strobe on the left.
I was planning to buy just one fish, but I ended buying it and a couple more fish and an aquarium. Plus small turtles because I've always wanted one :p
Atleast the sound of falling water makes my office a lot more relaxing :) |
| | I had a unexpected visit from our friendly wildlife when a bullfrog got into my office.
Naturally, I took out the camera and started shooting.
I only got to take a few shots because he suddenly jumped out of my box lol
Note: The animal ( I call him mr. froggy) was not harmed and released after about 10mins. |

| | Got myself a new lens, the venerable tammy.
You only have to read reviews on the net how good this thing is, although I dont think its a L lens quality glass. Still, I dunno what else comes close.
Pro's
1. IQ at F2.8 is ok, but it gets much better at F4.0 2. Very light, even with my 40D+grip+flash. 3. Fast focusing. The whiny sound that other people complain about is not a big problem for me. 4. Bang for the buck. Got mine for 15K, bnew.
Cons 1. Build quality - its plasticky, not so sure if this can handle things like sand or heavy dust. 2. Reverse Zoom - dont quite understand why they made this a reverse zoom, but I guess thats a tammy thing. My left hand feels a bit stretched. 3. Q.A issues - this is actually my second copy, the 1st copy I got just died after testing it for 30mins, the aperture ring got stuck, luckily i was able to get another copy right away.
Minor things, because this lens is a tiny wonder.
Tammy Vs Sigma 17-70 F2.8 - 4.5 macro: 1. IQ is much better for the tammy, but the range and macro feature of the sigma is something that I love when traveling and I prefer the build of the sigma. So I'm having second thought's replacing it, so im holding on to the sigma.

I'll be testing it further but judging from what i've seen so far, its a keeper. |
| | My brother asked me to take pics of their band "Moby Dick" on one of their gigs, this time in Mag:net in katipunan.
This is my 1st time shooting a band, even when my wife told me, my butt crack was showing almost all the time for the other people to see LOL & my left ear is still numb.
|
| | Here are a bunch of selected pics from my daughters second birthday.
My wife had planned trisha's birthday for weeks, my only problem was I broke my flash and had to settle using my studio lights, so this was a sort of a strobist shoot.

| | Not a lot of people know that I'm half igorot (and proud of it ), this trip was long overdue - to visit my my relatives "resting place"... .
I'm a little disappointed because I didn't have enough time to take some pictures, after the grueling ride from manila to sagada I literally had one afternoon to get some shots in. (We had to come back to manila asap, amp)
No hanging coffins etc of that sort, hopefully next time.
The best thing about the trip was my mom told me that Eduardo Masferre - The father of Phil Photography - was his uncle. Pretty cool. |
